It started in the backyard of our new home—full of sandy soil, starved for nutrients. I looked around with full confidence that the only things I could successfully grow were weeds.

With ZERO experience and a head full of dreams, I did what anyone in my shoes would do: Googled a solution.

I found what types of plants would grow in our environment/region and would require little maintenance. Now, armed with new information, I headed to eBay where I purchased my first seeds: okra and cowpeas.

With a newly acquired potato rake and shovel, I cleared two small patches of land, marked out some rows, and planted our seeds.

Our gardening journey began there and, through the grace of God, will continue for many years to come.
